Proclamation

WHEREAS,      on March 25, 1998, Omak Police Officer Michael W. Marshall, responded to a call for assistance due to a domestic disturbance at a motel in the City of Omak, performing his sworn duties to faithfully protect and serve those in need;

WHEREAS,     a senseless and unwarranted attack with a firearm was unleashed upon Officer Marshall resulting in his tragic death instantly taking him: a public servant, beloved son, devoted husband, caring father, and faithful friend from our community;

WHEREAS,      as the people of the City of Omak continue to grieve for the loss of Officer Marshall, as we continue to pray for the well-being and healing of his family and continue to offer comfort, support, and heartfelt tributes; we come together in a remarkable spirit of patriotism and unity, performing countless acts of kindness, generosity and compassion; 

WHEREAS,      the fraternity of police from around our City, County, State, Nations and world join the City of Omak in mourning the loss of Officer Marshall;

WHEREAS,     March 26, 2021 marks the 23rd anniversary of this senseless murder.  This is a day to remember Officer Marshall’s legacy and respectful way to remember and honor his public service to the Community he was raised in and so proudly served and at the same time honor those who continue to serve the City of Omak today;

WHEREAS,      the City of Omak wishes to recognize the valiant sacrifice given by Officer Marshall and his devotion to public safety and support of the cause of freedom and defending the public;

WHEREAS,      we, as a community, wish to honor the heroic service of Officer Michael W. Marshall and hereby permanently retire his official unit number 404 and use it as a symbol of his dedication in his Line-of-Duty death;

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Omak, on behalf of the Omak City Council and all citizens hereof, I do hereby proclaim Friday, March 26, 2021, as: "Gave his Life for His Friend’s Day”

and encourage everyone to observe a Moment of Remembrance with silence and prayer in honor of Officer Marshall.  Your service to our community and department will never be forgotten.
