Code Enforcement & Animal Control

The Code Enforcement Officer performs a variety of routine and complex, city code enforcement work.  As the Code Enforcement Officer he is responsible for evaluating private properties and public grounds against the Omak Municipal Code.  He will answer citizen questions about the codes, and may issue citations for code violations.  He works to assist other city departments to maintain an attractive, safe community. 

This position is also responsible for Animal Control in the City of Omak.  The City of Omak requires pet owners to purchase an annual dog license.  The licenses go on sale in December of each year.  Having a license will help ensure your pet is returned home safely.  More information about our Animal Control is located in the Omak Municipal Code Chapter 6.16.

Yard Sales

The City of Omak does regulate yard sales and yard sale signage.  A person, firm or corporation is allowed to conduct two (2) yard sales per calendar year.  Each yard sale cannot be more than five consecutive days in duration OMC 4.42.015. Yard sale signage cannot be attached to utility poles, street lights or traffic control poles.  If you have questions about yard sales, contact Code Enforcement.

Trees & Bushes

The Public Works Department is in charge of bringing awareness to the public about the Tree and Vegetation Code (OMC 11.2).  Annually our Public Works Department provides notices to residence and businesses about the need to prune trees that hang over sidewalks, city street and obstruct line of site for vehicles.  Trees and bushes shall not hang less than 8 feet over a sidewalk and not less than 14 feet over the roadway.

Snow & Ice Removal

The Omak Municipal Code requires the occupant or owner of each parcel in the City of Omak abutting or bordering upon any street, avenue, highway or public place, to remove or cause to be removed all snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of or adjacent to such premises to the full paved width of such sidewalk, within eight hours of daylight after such snow or ice shall have fallen or accumulated.  Further information about snow removal and penalty's for violators can be found in OMC 11.04
