Council Committees

2008 CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEES

 

In addition to serving as members of the City Council, Council members also participate in various committees, which have been created by the Council to assist them in examining in greater depth the detail issues that may come before the Council.  The Mayor appoints the chairman and member of each three-member committee.

 

Airport/Audit Committee:
Chair:  Donna Short         Council members:  Steve Clark, Lew Goebel

The Airport/Audit Committee directs its attention primarily to recommendations regarding matters relating to the operation/maintenance of the Omak Municipal Airport.  This committee reviews all claim and payroll vouchers and is involved with City finance and budget matters.

Personnel Committee:
Chair:  Michael Foth           Council members:  Leanne Leifer, Lew Goebel

The committee is involved in labor relations/negotiations and in giving direction to the staff on personnel issues.

Sanitation/Public Health Committee:
Chair:  TBA                            Council members:  Steve Clark, TBA

The Sanitation/Public Health primarily concern itself with the garbage contract for services and solid waste collection issues.

Water/Sewer Committee:
Chair:  Lew Goebel               Council members:  TBA, Dennis Stewart

The Water/Sewer Committee directs its attention primarily to matters of city infrastructure.  The committee may hear issues concerning city development, the scheduling of improvements within the water and sewer systems or the consideration of rates and service policies for these departments.

Park/Cemetery Committee:
Chair:  Leanne Leifer              Council members:  Donna Short, Michael Foth

This committee concerns itself with the operation and maintenance of city parks, recreational activities, and the operation and maintenance of the Omak Memorial Cemetery.

Police/Fire/Licensing:
Chair:  TBA                              Council members:  Leanne Leifer, Donna Short

The committee focuses on the legal and criminal justice activities in the City in addition to issues relating to operation and maintenance of the fire department and police department.

Street Committee:
Chair:  Steve Clark                   Council members:  Michael Foth, TBA

This committee directs its attention to issues involving the operation and maintenance of the city streets and alley infrastructure.  The committee may become involved in the policies regarding street signs and development.
